The Good Shepherd

August 30, 2019

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” John 10:10-11

JESUS THE SAVIOR. Jesus took our sin upon Him when He died on the Cross. We’ve all drifted like sheep, but the Shepherd and guardian of our souls has come to rescue us from our wanderings and get us back in fellowship with God (Isaiah 53:6).

JESUS THE PROVIDER. God is not distant. He is present, watchful, and caring. Whatever circumstances you are facing—if you are in the fight of your life—God is present and able to help you. If you’ve been in a fog, God’s light excels darkness. If you’ve been down, God is the glory and the lifter of your head (Psalm 3:3). If your heart is vexed, God brings His peace (Philippians 4:7).

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalm 23:1-3

JESUS THE GUIDE. The Scriptures supply everything that the soul needs. At the start of every day, go to God’s Word to get direction and to get your heart settled on His plan. As you open your Bible, He’ll lead you on the path of righteousness into fruitful, green pastures.

shep•herd, noun
One who herds, guards, and tends sheep. To guide or lead on a course. To direct or instruct in a certain manner.

PRAY THIS PRAYER:
Open my eyes that I may behold wondrous things from Your Word (Psalm 119:18). Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You pre¬pare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will fol¬low me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever (Psalm 23:4-6).
