DAVID AND GOLIATHPART 3: RUN TO THE BATTLE
July 18, 2025The Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you [Goliath] into our hands. 1 Samuel 17:47b
1. DAVID FACED THE GIANT. David ran to the battle line because he knew God was with him. (1 Samuel 17:48). Giants don’t go away when avoided, but they can be defeated when properly dealt with. Whatever has tried to hinder you from experiencing all that God has for you, you must face it. God is faithful every time, so we can run toward our battle.
2. DAVID KILLED GOLIATH. After killing Goliath with his sling and stone and using Goliath’s sword to cut off his head, David took Goliath’s head as a trophy to remember another point of breakthrough (1 Samuel 17:49-51). Now, when we go to battle, we can look to the prize that Jesus has already won. He disarmed all the principalities and powers that were against us and made a “bold display” of them in triumphing over them on the cross (Colossians 2:15 AMPC).
3. DAVID SET THE PRECEDENT. While we only see David kill one giant, he set a precedent to inspire giant-slaying by others. Even today, we can draw faith and hope from the amazing story in 1 Samuel 17. David was not perfect, but he tapped into the faithfulness of God. David later wrote, “I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken” (Psalm 37:25). So, press on, fight, and win whatever is coming against you!

SAY THIS OUT LOUD:
I run to the battle line with courage (1 Samuel 17:48). I stand firm in God’s power, knowing He has disarmed the enemy (Ephesians 6:10; Colossians 2:15). I am a giant slayer in Jesus’ Name!
