How to Detect and Avoid Snares

September 22, 2017

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!” For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. Psalm 91:1-3

1. BE AWARE OF THE SNARE. The devil is the enemy of our souls and he wants to keep us from doing God’s will. Just knowing there are snares to avoid puts us in touch with reality and reminds us that we can’t save ourselves. Thankfully, God is our deliverer! He is trustworthy and has a plan to protect and guide us.

2. GET DELIVERED FROM THE SNARE. On the occasions when we need help, it’s humbling. Sometimes we override the voice of the Holy Spirit and listen to the imaginations of people rather than the heart of God. There are snares of seemingly “good opportunities” which aren’t really from God; the trap of flatterers who try to manipulate for their own agendas; the snare of people-pleasing when we care more what others think of us than what God is saying. But our help is in the Name of the Lord. When we repent and call upon Him, He will deliver us!

Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper; the snare is broken and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:7-8

3. AVOID THE SNARE. We need to be bold to act but obedient to what God is saying. That is why it is important to know the Master’s voice by seeking Him daily. We avoid snares not by being anxious and looking everywhere for them but by staying alert and keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. Read the Word, pray in the Spirit and pray with your understanding. As you stay connected to God, He will help you and He will order your steps (Proverbs 16:9).
