The Attitude of the Church
June 18, 2012Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose . . . Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:2-5
Make Jesus central. The chief project of life is cultivating closeness with Jesus.
Love one another. We love because God first loved us (1 John 4:19). Every day we have a choice to get bitter and hard or to forgive and walk in love. Decide today to be an agent of love.
Have faith in God. The language of faith isn’t just a set of principles—it’s based on our faithful, trustworthy God. Because Jesus rose from the dead we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).
Follow sound doctrine. Read the Bible! The Word of God is the plumb line that will keep us from veering off into the ditch of false teaching or trends (Ephesians 4:14-15).
Keep crystal clear vision. Let the Gospel of Jesus inform every other area of your life. Jesus will keep us focused and keep us out of secondary issues.
Have a mind to work. Church culture should be an army of people with a spirit of faith and love who put their hands to something meaningful (Nehemiah 4:6).
Commit to the mission. This is all for Jesus. If you’ve never made Jesus Lord of your life, ask Him to be your Savior. If you’ve been apathetic, recommit yourself to finding that original spark. If you catch yourself murmuring and complaining, repent. There is beauty and power in commitment, when you follow through and say “but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
God bless you and your family!
