MADE FOR CONNECTION
May 30, 2025Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23
1. CREATED IN GOD’S IMAGE. We are spirit beings made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27). The Bible teaches that we are spirits, we have souls, and we live in bodies. The language of our body is our five senses – sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. The language of our soul includes our mind, will, and emotions. However, since God is Spirit, we connect with Him through our spirits. While our brains and senses are fascinating, only God’s Word can help us distinguish between our soul and spirit – to help us discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).
2. GOD REVEALS MYSTERIES. Jesus explained to Nicodemus in John 3 that we must be born again, not of flesh, but of the Spirit. We were once spiritually dead, but in Christ, we are made alive. Just as our physical ears detect sound waves, our new birth gives us the spiritual capacity to hear God. Jesus said in John 10 that His sheep hear His voice and a stranger will not follow. And we are not left in the dark or mystified, Daniel 2:28 reminds us: “There is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.”
DEFINITION:
mys·ter·y, noun
One that is not fully understood or that baffles or eludes the understanding; an enigma. A religious truth that is incomprehensible to reason and knowable only through divine revelation.
3. MADE FOR COMPANIONSHIP. After nearly 47 years of marriage, I treasure companionship with my wife. I love the conversation, communication, connection, and camaraderie. In Ephesians 5, Paul states that marriage is a direct parallel to Christ and the Church. God created us, drew us to Himself, and chose us to know Him. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,” and verse 14 adds, “All who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” God designed us in His image and for connection. God communicates Spirit to spirit – His heart to our hearts.
PRAY THIS OUT LOUD:
Father, thank You for creating me in Your image. Thank You for making me alive to You through the new birth. I thank You that I can hear Your voice and be led by Your Spirit – and know what is of You and what is not of You. Reveal mysteries to me. Help me walk closely with You. May my heart be in tune with Your heart. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
