Hope for the New Year

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4

1. LAY DOWN YOUR BAGGAGE. Before David conquered Goliath, he first left his baggage in the care of the keeper (1 Samuel 17:22). As we prepare to enter into some breakthrough seasons, we need to lay down the weights and sins that hold us back and run with endurance the race that’s set before us. (Hebrews 12:1).

2. DON’T COPY OTHER PEOPLE’S METHODS. Saul tried to give David his armor, but David instead took five smooth stones and a sling to the battlefront (1 Samuel 17:38-39). We don’t need to complicate our own battles by using other people’s methodology. We don’t win by might or by power, but by the Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).

3. SLAY YOUR GIANT. Our faith in God is not baseless optimism but a biblical hope anchored in the Word of God. The giant you are facing might be an economic relapse, family issues, or anxiety about your future. Whatever it is, God has the right methods so that you can stand up to it in the Name of Jesus and command that giant to fall.

4. COURAGE IS CONTAGIOUS. Other people’s breakthroughs are attached to your obedience. When David killed Goliath, it paved the way for others to have the courage to stand up to their own giants. Years later David encountered another giant, but a different warrior rose up and killed him (2 Samuel 21:15-17). Fight and win your battle and then watch the repercussive effect.

DAILY CONFESSION
I know the plans that God has for me—plans for welfare and not for calamity to give me a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). This hope I have is an anchor for the soul, both sure and steadfast (Hebrews 6:19). And as for me, I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more! (Psalm 71:14).
