HEARING GOD’S VOICE

June 24, 2022

[I pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. Ephesians 1:17-19a

Communication is key to every relationship, including our walk with God. In the beginning, Adam and Eve enjoyed direct, full-on fellowship with God. But one of the damages from the fall of man was the disruption of communication with God. But now, because of Jesus, our fellowship with God is restored, and we can all hear and know His voice and be led by His Holy Spirit.

God doesn’t send out mixed signals. He said we can know His voice and the voice of a stranger we won’t follow (John 10:4-5, 27). Primarily, our leading is not from angelic visitations or a prophecy from a person, or an audible voice. In Romans 8:16, it says, “His Spirit testifies with our spirit.” The Old Testament calls it a still, small voice (1 Kings 19:12).

How can you know if a prompting you are getting is from God? You ask: (1) does it line up with the Bible and (2) does it glorify Jesus. The Lord’s voice does not agitate; He does not give us a spirit of fear. I often pray Ephesians 1:17-18 that God will give me a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him and that the eyes of my heart may be enlightened so I can know God’s voice.

We are three-part beings: spirit, soul, and body. Just like we need to take care of the health of our physical body and our soul (which is our emotions and intellect), we need to invest into our spirit through prayer, worship, and studying the Bible. As we consistently do that, we get familiar with God’s voice in our hearts.

Pray this prayer:
God, thank You for today. I’m seeking You for Your will to be done in my life. Show me Your plan for today. I pray You give me a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You – enlighten my understanding so that I see things how You see them. I love You! In Jesus’ Name, amen!

God bless you!
