HEARING GOD’S VOICE
June 5, 2026[I pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. – Ephesians 1:17
1. COMMUNICATION IS KEY TO OUR WALK WITH GOD. In the beginning, Adam and Eve enjoyed direct fellowship with God. But one of the damages from the fall of man was the disruption of that communication. Now, because of Jesus, our fellowship is restored.
2. GOD DOESN’T SEND MIXED SIGNALS. He said we can know His voice and the voice of a stranger we won’t follow (John 10:4-5, 27). Primarily, our leading is not from angelic visitations, a prophecy from a person, or an audible voice. Romans 8:16 says, “His Spirit testifies with our spirit.” The Old Testament calls it a still, small voice (1 Kings 19:12 NKJV).
We can all hear and know God’s voice and be led by His Holy Spirit.
3. HOW TO KNOW IF A PROMPTING IS GOD? Ask: (1) does it line up with the Bible? and (2) does it glorify Jesus? The Lord’s voice does not agitate. I often pray Ephesians 1:18 that the eyes of my heart may be enlightened so I can know God’s voice.
4. SPIRIT, SOUL, AND BODY. Just like we need to take care of the health of our physical bodies and our souls (mind, will, and emotions), we need to invest into our spirits through prayer, worship, and Bible study. As we consistently do that, we get familiar with God’s voice in our hearts.
DEFINITION: en·light·ened, adj.
Freed from ignorance and misinformation.
PRAY THIS OUT LOUD:
God, I pray You give me a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You – enlighten my understanding so that I see things how You see them, in Jesus’ Name, amen (Ephesians 1:17-18).
