Guided By the Holy Spirit

February 6, 2022

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

1. THE SPIRIT IS LIFE. “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I [Jesus] have spoken to you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63). Living by the Spirit gives life and peace, but the mindset on the flesh leads to death (Romans 8:6). The Spirit raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11), led Moses and parted the Red Sea (Isaiah 63:11-12), hovered over the water at Creation (Genesis 1:2), and visited the disciples on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:4). And He is the same Holy Spirit who is available to us today!

2. THE SPIRIT IS TRUTH. “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13a). The Holy Spirit is our Helper and He has been sent to teach us all things (John 14:26). When the devil tempted Jesus, He responded to every temptation with “It is written” (Luke 4:3-12). Tether yourself to the Word of God, and when problems come, respond with the promises you’ve found in the Scriptures.

3. THE SPIRIT IS POWER. “Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district” (Luke 4:14). We are called to go in the power of the Spirit to impact the world around us. Only Jesus can bring the hope and harmony that people are looking for. We will be increasingly effective as we draw near to God and allow our lives be guided by the Holy Spirit.
