GOD’S PLAN FOR SOWING AND REAPING
May 1, 2026Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever. 1 Peter 1:23 NKJV
1. SOWING AND REAPING IS A PRIMARY LAW OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD. In Missouri, it is springtime, and as people are planting gardens, think of how all this is God’s idea – He created fruit-bearing trees, He created the insect world for pollination, and He promised that the principle of seedtime and harvest will remain as long as the earth does (Genesis 8:22). In the New Testament, Jesus often taught spiritual principles in parables, and in Mark 4 He taught the parable of the sower and the soil (Mark 4:2-9), explaining that all the other parables we read in the Gospels are understood through this sowing and reaping principle (Mark 4:13-20).
2. THE WORD OF GOD IS THE SEED. “The sower sows the word” (Mark 4:14). The seed of the Word of God does not return empty without accomplishing what it has been sent to do (Isaiah 55:11). Sow God’s Word in your life and the lives of those around you: Sow the seeds of encouragement to the weak and the downtrodden. Sow the seeds of attention to those who are ignored. Sow the seeds of love to those who have experienced hatred. Sow the seeds of peace in the midst of confusion. Sow the seeds of clarity in the midst of deception. Sow the seeds of the gospel to a world that is filled with duplicity and so many variables. Let these truths of sowing and reaping get you into an adamant, consistent rhythm of speaking the Word over all the circumstances of your life.
Jesus said, “Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest” (John 4:35b).
3. SOW TOWARD THE HARVEST AMONG THE LOST. We are starting to see a revival in the church and a harvest among the lost. I know that God uses great evangelists like Reinhard Bonnke, Billy Graham, D.L. Moody, Charles Finney, and I honor those amazing and supernatural displays of God doing that through people. But I got saved because of a person who took me 10 miles out of his way when I was hitchhiking home from my restaurant job. He told me about Jesus, and it turned my life around. Because I’m the product of that individual, I forever have it burnished in my spirit that God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Stay fully connected to God and let Him use you to reach others, believing for not just a little fruit but thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold harvest flowing through you.
DEFINITION: par·a·ble, noun
About a third of Jesus’ teaching was by parables. A parable (“a casting alongside”) is a brief story told by way of analogy to illustrate a spiritual truth.
PRAY THIS OUT LOUD:
Lord, right now I look to You, and I ask for an increased awareness of the purpose for which I have been set apart. I pray my remaining days are better and more fruitful than any days I’ve had in the past. Whatever You have called me to do, I lock into that calling You have for my life, in Jesus’ Name, amen.
