GET INSPIRED TO READ THE BOOK OF PHILIPPIANS

October 31, 2025

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ. Philippians 1:9-10

1. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BOOK OF PHILIPPIANS. I love the book of Philippians and read it often because, though written in antiquity, it is very pertinent for our modern, daily lives. It’s four chapters that Paul wrote from a Roman prison cell to the church in Philippi. It contains powerful, specific, and thorough ways to pray, to conquer worry, and to get your mind renewed on things that are lovely, of a good report, true, and pure (Philippians 4:6-8).

2. LOVE ROOTED IN AUTHENTICITY. In Philippians 1:9-10, Paul is praying that their atmosphere be based on love more and more in real knowledge and all discernment. Real knowledge as opposed to false information; all discernment as opposed to skepticism, cynicism, and analysis. We want our love to be rooted in authenticity. It’s an outflow of one who is forgiven much and so loves much (Luke 7:47).

3. FLOWING IN UNITY. “Let the love of the brethren continue” (Hebrews 13:1). Love brings unity, and it dispels duplicity. The church at Philippi was really flowing in this: “being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit and intent on one purpose” (Philippians 2:2). And earlier Paul writes, “Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ . . . standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” (Philippians 1:27).

Take time to read through Philippians and pray the prayers that Paul prayed. You’ll get inspired in your love walk, your prayer life, and the importance of unity – both in your family and church!

PRAY THIS OUT LOUD:

I pray that my love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment (Philippians 1:9). I bind deception; I loose clarity (Matthew 18:18). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). His Word is crystal clear and pure (Psalm 12:6). I pray for correct interpretation of it as I rightly divide it (2 Timothy 2:15) – that the eyes of my understanding are enlightened (Ephesians 1:18), in Jesus’ Name, amen.
