How to Get Fortified

April 29, 2016

Then David and the people who were with him lifted their voices and wept until there was no strength in them to weep. Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:4, 6

1. STRENGTHEN YOURSELF IN THE LORD. Sometimes, like King David, we find ourselves facing off with challenges alone with no one around to encourage us. But at that moment of depletion, we can find encouragement and fortification by seeking God. As we fellowship with Him, strength rises up on the inside of us and we are able to fight and not let up.

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you. Colossians 3:16a

2. FEED ON GOD’S WORD. Strengthening comes from both nutrition and resistance. Life offers plenty of resistance in the form of challenges and battles. But we get our nutrition from God’s Word.

3. STAY THE COURSE. Hebrews 11 lists great people of faith who “from weakness were made strong” (Hebrews 11:34). Take some time to meditate on that chapter and be stirred by the men and women who stayed the course their entire lives. As you stay in the faith fight, you will see breakthrough results—both in your life and in the lives of those around you!
