What to Do When Troubles Hit Your Life

May 23, 2015

1. Identify the Problem.
O Lord, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me. Many are saying of my soul, “There is no deliverance for him in God.” Psalm 3:1-2.
A wise pastor once told me that the first step toward victory is admitting there is a problem. In this fallen world, we don’t get exempted from trouble, but God promises us strength and victory in the battle.

2. Identify the Solution.
But You, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head Psalm 3:3.
“Real help comes from God” (Psalm 3:8 MSG). For King David, God was his solution, God was his focus, God was more important than title and position. What do we do in the day of trouble? Keep seeking God (Psalm 77:2a.)

3. Go to Battle.
I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me round about Psalm 3:5-6.
David understood battle. Psalm 3:6 shows how he chose to stand in faith and refused to yield to the spirit of fear despite the overwhelming odds against him. God will see you through.

4. Start to Praise God.
Salvation belongs to the Lord; Your blessing be upon Your people! Psalm 3:8.
Take some time to lift your head and praise God. “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:4a). It can seem fake or hypocritical from the feelings standpoint, but it’s not. To press on and fight the fight of faith in the midst of your struggles is the best thing you can do!

Daily Confession Based on Psalm 3
God, You’re a shield for me. You’re the glory and lifter of my head. I was crying to the Lord with my voice, and He answered me from His holy mountain. I lay down and slept. I awoke, for the Lord sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me round about. Salvation belongs to the Lord; Your blessing be upon Your people!

vic·to·ry, noun
