THE VALUE OF GOD’S WORD

March 31, 2023

The law of Your mouth is better to me than
thousands of gold and silver pieces.
Psalm 119:72

1. GOD’S WORD IS WORTH MORE THAN GOLD. Gold has been the focal point of currency for millennia worldwide. There’s a high value placed on it. As I’m writing this, gold is over $1,900 per ounce. The writer of this psalm is saying that as important and valuable as silver and gold are, God’s Word is better.

2. GOD’S WORD BRINGS YOUR LIFE INTO ALIGNMENT. Years ago, my wife and I bought an old 1924 farmhouse and began rehabbing it while we lived there (which I don’t recommend). The foundation and walls had settled. You could put a marble on one side of the floor and let it go, and it would quickly shoot across the room. I jacked up the floor and used a level and a plumbline to see where the wall wasn’t straight and how to adjust and bring the wall back into alignment. God’s Word does this for our thinking. It’s a faithful standard that provides equilibrium for our lives.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:20-21

3. GOD’S WORD IS ETERNAL.
The pharaohs of old lined their tombs with gold and made beautiful statuary and furniture, but they couldn’t take it with them. We come into the world with nothing. We leave with nothing. But God’s Word is forever settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89). It’s good and biblical to build wealth and to have savings. But more importantly, we must make sure in our hearts and minds that we are storing up the amazing wealth of the Word of God every day, all the time!

DAILY CONFESSION
I treasure God’s Word in my heart. It’s better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces. When it goes forth, it does not return empty. It accomplishes what God desires in my life and succeeds in the matter for which He sent it (Isaiah 55:11).
