HOW TO FIND GOD’S DIRECTION FOR YOUR LIFE

April 21, 2023

You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
Psalm 16:11

1. CENTER YOUR LIFE AROUND THE PERSON. We don’t only have to know about God, but we can know Him personally. The core of Christianity is a relationship with God through Jesus, our mediator. God so loved the world that He was compelled and moved to send His Son, who died for our sins, was buried, and rose again.

In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. Mark 1:35

2. SPEND TIME IN GOD’S PRESENCE.
Some of the richest times I have had with the Lord are in the simple moments. In the 1970s, I was in the season of my life where I was doing a lot of evaluation. Many friends were advancing in their career preparations, but I was getting called to a shift in my direction. After work one night, I opted not to hang out with my friends, and instead, I walked outside of the place I was housesitting. I found a vacant lot that had been mowed and sat down. You could feel the humidity and hear the bugs buzzing. No houses were around. I looked up at the sky, took a breath, and began to pray a little bit. It wasn’t a big fancy deal. But while I was out in that field, God’s presence started to roll in, and He began to download my destiny to me and show and guide me on all this stuff I’m doing now, decades later. I still go outside almost every night, look up at the stars, and talk to the Lord in simple terms – nothing pious or polished – just a conversation. I acknowledge God and thank Him for being so great and letting me be a part of His deal.

3. STAY TETHERED TO GOD’S PRINCIPLES. God wants to show us the path of life. When we consistently familiarize ourselves with God’s Word and study it, we know the way to walk and the work we are to do (Exodus 18:20). And when we stay connected to Him and His Word, He will speak to us and guide us.

He will keep us from spinning our wheels in life and help us to use our resources at the right time, in the right places, and to do the right things.
