BLESSED!

April 3, 2026

Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Genesis 1:28a NLT

1. GOD IS INCLINED TO BLESS YOU. The concept that God is always angry – with lightning bolts in His hands and a furrowed brow – is inconsistent with what we see from Creation and what Jesus did on the cross. In Genesis, the FIRST thing God did with humanity after creation was to bless them – expressing His love, His loyalty, and His affection. When humanity sinned, God provided a way for us to connect with Him again. His wrath toward sin was poured out on Jesus, who became our substitute to suffer and die for us, so we can have restored fellowship with Him – the greatest blessing of all.

2. OBEDIENCE BRINGS BLESSING. In Deuteronomy 28, God says, “All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God” (verse 2). People talk about the price of obedience, but with God, it actually pays to obey. Obedience begets blessing – it removes inhibitors and blessing-blockers like unforgiveness, unbelief, or unrepented sin. In Deuteronomy, God is steering ancient Israel into blessing after blessing (28:3-14) – pointing to God’s abundance and favor.

Not only are you designed to inherit a blessing, but you are also designed to generate blessings.

3. WE ARE BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING! One of the first things God said to humanity was to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28). He mandated from the beginning that we not only receive blessing but also be a blessing. God instructed Adam to tend the garden (Genesis 2:15) and name the animals (Genesis 2:19-20), showing that God has called us to treat our surroundings with respect and faithful stewardship. I want to encourage you to simply respond to the love God has for you, and then abundant blessings will flow through your life into eternity.

DEFINITION:

bless·ed, (Hebrew: Barach), adj.

Abundant provision. Support. God’s gracious empowerment.

SAY THIS OUT LOUD:
(Based on Deuteronomy 28:1-14)
As I diligently obey the Lord my God, I pray that blessings will come upon me and my family. I am blessed in the city and blessed in the country. Blessed are the offspring of my body and the produce of my ground. Blessed shall I be when I come in and when I go out. The Lord will command the blessing upon all that I put my hand to. I abound in prosperity. I shall lend to many nations, but I shall not borrow. I will observe God’s Word carefully and not turn aside to the right or to the left!
