The Power of the Holy Spirit

September 8, 2014

Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” But this He spoke of the Spirit. John 7:37-39a

Living Water. Jesus gave us the imagery of rivers to put us in touch with the power of the Holy Spirit. God designed us not to be reservoirs containing water, but to be gushing torrents of living water expressed through our prayers, through our random acts of kindness, through our combined work as a church body.

Fresh Water. When you read Ezekiel 47, you’ll find amazing river imagery showing that where the river flows, everything grows. Everywhere the river goes, it will bring life. Every dry place where the plan and purpose of God goes, it will bring change and healing.

Then he said to me: “This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.” Ezekiel 47:8-9 NKJV

Drinking Water. Jesus said, “Let anyone who thirsts come to Me and drink.” He will meet those needs in your soul that can’t be satisfied by any other thing. Next time you are dry and parched, take a ladle from the rivers of salvation. The Savior who saves, the Healer who heals withholds no good thing from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11).

Pray this Prayer:
God, fill me with Your Holy Spirit today. I pray that I don’t just have enough but that I have overflow—that my life is a fountain of fresh living water. Freely I receive, freely I give. I thank You that I am designed by You. You knew I would be alive in this moment to fulfill Your purposes on this earth. Help me to be led by the Spirit. I pray any mental fog would lift and that I would have clarity about what You want me to do. I love You, Jesus!

riv•er, noun

God bless you,
