Obedience Brings Blessing.
But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does. James 1:25
Obeying the Word is how we can open the door to God's blessing. As we meditate on Scripture, the way we think changes, and we shift into faith and trust in God as our provider. Psalm 1 gives the picture of a blessed and prosperous person:
"But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night" (vs. 2). Ponder, dwell on, and think about the Word as you go throughout your day and before you fall asleep at night.
Like any good parent, God wants to see us blessed (Luke 11:13). He desires us to prosper even as our soul prospers (3 John 2). Prospering God's way involves laying aside certain thingslike sin: "Therefore, putting aside all filthiness
and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls" (James 1:21). Psalm 1 says that the prosperous person does not listen to the voice and advice of the world and avoids a critical spirit (vs. 1).
As you obey God, you will be blessed (Deuteronomy 28:2).
If you consent and obey, you will eat the best of the land. Isaiah 1:19
What blessing is in store for those who obey God's Word! "They are strong, like a tree planted by a river. The tree produces fruit in season, and its leaves don't die. Everything they do will succeed. (Psalm 1:3 NCV). I think that's worth laying aside
the flesh and getting in the Word more! This isn't saying everything will be easy, but even when we have struggles and trials, "we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).
We're blessed,
Pastor Jeff
And let them say continually, "The Lord be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant." Psalm 35:27b
For it is You who blesses the righteous man, O Lord, You surround him with favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:12
