In Dependence.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Independence. It's a privilege and a blessing we are thankful to enjoy as Americans. But, as great as it is, this political and social independence can't hold a match to the joy of living "in dependence" upon Jesus.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines dependence as:
1 : the quality or state of being dependent; especially: the quality or state of being influenced or determined by or subject to another.
2 : RELIANCE, TRUST.
3 : one that is relied on.

Now, that should define our relationship with the Lord—reliance, trust, being influenced by. I don't want to live independent from God. I want to live in dependence on Him! By His grace I am willing to not have things my way, because I know with confidence that God's ways are higher than my ways (Isaiah 55:9) and that He always causes me to triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14).

God makes it so easy for us to depend on Him. He is trustworthy (Proverbs 3:5-6). He is faithful (1 Thessalonians 5:24). He is reliable (Matthew 28:20). He never changes (Malachi 3:6). He doesn't disappoint (Hebrews 13:5). He delivers what He promises (Joshua 21:45).

As we celebrate Independence Day with friends and family this week, let's do so by exercising our independent freedom of choice to reignite our reliance on Jesus and our commitment to live in dependence on Him!

God bless you!
