Greatness.
And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest. And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called 'Benefactors.' But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant. For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves." Luke 22:24-27
This, my friends, is what greatness is all about. If you want to have greatness, get involved with the life of serving. Jesus came not "to be served, but to serve" (Matthew 20:28). The world is skewed in valuing what's important, grabbing at any form of happiness that can be found. The paradox of the kingdom is that when you lay down your life you find it (Matthew 10:39). The greatest is the servant (Matthew 23:11).
We all have aspirations to live great lives and to bear a lot of fruit. Every believer who understands the invitation to serve is a candidate for greatness in the kingdom of God. You do have a gift; and God calls you to use it to serve others (1 Peter 4:10).
Nothing can excel the attitude of serving. Don't underestimate the "little" moments of kindness: letting someone go ahead of you in line, promptings to pray, make a phone call, or write a simple notethese are all divine encounters coming from a heart of servanthood. This church is what it is because of those who serve; because of all of you who have given your lives to honor God and help people. And that is true greatness.
Press On,
